Like a lot of you no doubt, I like to do a bit of everything, but I do think that six weeks is a long time to not do anything resembling bookwork. So when the nice people at Parragon Books set us a challenge to tackle their Gold Stars English book for 30 days, the holidays seemed like a perfect time to try it out.
The book is divided into topics such as commas, spelling, fiction and non-fiction, writing a review and so on. A double-page spread is dedicated to each topic. We have found that each section has taken no more than 10 minutes, so it is perfect for just fitting in when you have a spare few moments.
So far small boy (who is heading into year 4) has tackled spellings, commas, exclamation and question marks, speech marks, nouns and plurals. The book is aimed at 7-9 year olds, so he hasn't really come across anything he hasn't done before, but it is a great way to reinforce last year's learning - and getting him to do a bit of writing (which can only be a good thing!)
